HVAC Systems for Dwelling Units:
The HVAC system for a Part 9 (residential) building must do 2 jobs and sometimes 3. The requirements for heating, cooling (optional) and ventilation for each dwelling unit are different. Heating capacity is calculated based house size, insulation levels and climate but is not affected by the medium of heat distribution. Cooling capacity depends primarily on the building’s solar exposure and that of its glazing. The ventilation requirement, the smallest and least understood of the 3 mechanical sisters, is primarily determined by intended occupancy as established by the number of bedrooms.
